SKELETAL DYSHARMONIES ORTHODONTICS WITH MEAW technique (Multiloop Edgewise Arch Wire)

See VIDEO TESTIMONIALS of our patients

This is a unique technique which is, possibly, the most complete orthodontic technique.
The main feature that makes this therapeutic concept so unique and separates it from the conventional orthodontic approach is the fact that it takes into consideration the function and the anatomy of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) and the dynamic relationship among the occlusion (bite), TMJ and the cranial bones in order to plan the individualised treatment. This is why this technique is called “Joint related Orthodontics“ or “Craniomandibular Orthodontics“.

What are the benefits of this approach ?

This therapeutic approach treats symptoms like, joint (TMJ) pain, reduced mobility of the lower jaw, locked joint, sounds of the joint, chronic neck pain, headaches, tinnitus (buzzing sound in the ears), feeling of blocked ear, partial hearing loss, severe wearing of the teeth, gum recession, abfractions e.t.c.

Where this approach can be applied ?

It can be applied to all the patients (symptomatic and non symptomatic) since it puts in harmony, both, aesthetics and function. Not only does it treat the symptoms but it also prevents them on non symptomatic patients yet. It is extremely beneficial for patients who perform high intensity bruxism at night. Almost all of these patients exhibit some of the previously mentioned symptoms (headaches, joint pain, joint sounds, tinnitus, severe teeth wear, gum recessions, chronic neck pain, etc). Treating these symptoms, the well being and the quality of life of the patient improves tremendously. It is very important to mention that the treatment is done without extractions of permanent teeth and without orthographic surgery.

The Technique: It requires Condylography, impressions, fabrication of models of the patient and fabrication of individualised arch wires by the orthodontist.

Details of the technique: Based on the findings of the condylography, the treatment plan starts by finding the correct position of the condyle within the joint where the tissues of the joint never get  overloaded during any function of the stomatognathic system. Once the condylar position is found the provision of the right occlusion starts through the orthodontic treatment. This is why this therapeutic approach is called “ Joint related orthodontics “ compared to conventional orthodontics which is  “teeth related“.

Condylography

It is the strongest diagnostic tool that exists in this therapeutic approach. (Craniomandibular or Joint related orthodontics). Initially we locate the true hinge axis of the condyles and then we start the registration of all the mandibular  (jaw ) movements which are : Position of the condyle in the joint where the tissues of the joint are unloaded, closing of the lower jaw until the first tooth contact, closing of the jaw from the first toot contact to full intercuspation, forced bite, open – close, protrusion – recursion, laterotrusive movements (left- right), swallowing, phonation, bruxism, matication (left- right). Every movement is registered 3 times for more accuracy. Then the findings of the condylography are analysed and the information we get, help us to have a “clear picture“ of the condition of the temporomandibular joint . Based on this , we decide which is the therapeutic position of the condyle in the jointwhere the tissues of the joint never get overloaded during any function of the jaw. In this specific therapeutic position of the condyle, we built the occlusion of the teeth. By doing this we put in harmony the joint, the occlusion, the function of the muscles. Establishing this harmony the symptoms are eliminated and the quality of life of the patients improves immediately.
