First visit to the Orthodontist. When and why?

The American and European Academy of Orthodontists suggests that the first visit should be done at the age of 6-7 years. Although classical Orthodontic treatment usually begins with the change of all the primary teeth and the eruption of the permanent teeth, i.e. between 10-12 years of age. However, there are cases where Orthodontic treatment needs to start earlier. These cases mainly concern skeletal imbalances in the jaw.

At a young age, the bones are soft and agile and the seams that connect them open up. This way, the Orthodontist is able to move the bones or to guide them to grow in the right direction by using special mechanisms that exert orthopedic forces.

Upon completion of the body growth, this would be impossible and correcting the same case would require surgery.
